Reintroduction of the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa Scheme

Scope and Eligibility Criteria

The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa permits eligible third-country nationals (i.e., individuals who are neither nationals of the European Union (EU) nor the European Economic Area (EEA)) to reside lawfully within the Republic of Cyprus, provided they are engaged in remote work.

To qualify under the scheme, applicants must satisfy the following prerequisites:

  • Be a non-EU and non-EEA national;
  • Possess the capability to execute their professional duties remotely through telecommunication technologies;
  • Be either:
    • Employed by an entity lawfully established and operating outside the territory of Cyprus; or
    • Self-employed, offering services remotely to clientele located abroad;
  • Demonstrate a consistent and adequate monthly net income of not less than €3,500, after deduction of taxes and contributions.

Principal Advantages

Eligible individuals who are granted the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa may benefit from the following:

  • Issuance of an initial residence permit valid for a period of one (1) year, renewable for an additional period of up to two (2) years;
  • Right of residence extended to immediate family members, namely a spouse or civil partner and minor children, who will be issued permits with concurrent validity;
    • Note: Family members shall not be entitled to engage in any form of employment or remunerated activity within the territory of the Republic.

Further, digital nomads residing in Cyprus for a period exceeding one hundred eighty-three (183) days within a single tax year may be classified as tax residents of Cyprus, provided they do not hold tax residency status in another jurisdiction, thereby availing themselves of the Republic’s favourable tax regime.

Application Procedure

Applications for residence permits under this scheme must be submitted within three (3) months from the date of entry into the Republic of Cyprus. Submissions are to be made at the central offices of the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Nicosia.

Procedural Considerations

  • Applications may be lodged in person or through a duly authorised representative;
  • All accompanying documents must be officially translated and either apostilled or otherwise legally certified;
  • Collection of biometric data (photograph and fingerprints) is obligatory for applicants over the age of six (6) and may occur either at the time of or subsequent to the application submission;
  • Persons already legally residing in Cyprus under a different immigration status may apply to change their status to that of a Digital Nomad Visa holder, subject to compliance with all applicable requirements.
